Seeking Energy Autonomy
Pioneering the Future of Wind Energy
At Windworks, our journey began with a bold vision: to revolutionize the way the world harnesses wind energy. Founded by a team of passionate engineers, we set out to develop a technology that could overcome the limitations of traditional wind turbines and unlock the true potential of wind power.

About the Migros Pioneer Fund
The Migros Pioneer Fund supports sustainable solutions for societal challenges with the goal of initiating systemic change towards a future-oriented society. The impact-oriented funding approach combines financial support with active funding and risk management. The fund is part of the social commitment of the Migros Group and has an annual budget of approximately CHF 15 million. The Migros Pioneer Fund is supported by companies such as Denner, Migros Bank, Migrol, migrolino and Ex Libris. It is part of the social commitment of the Migros Group: engagement.migros.ch
From Vision to Reality
June 2018: R&D Kickoff
Our journey began with a deep dive into the aerodynamics of vertical-axis wind turbines, experimenting with a small prototype at the Unsteady Flow Diagnostics Laboratory at EPFL. The wind tunnel was our playground, and we were just getting started.
August 2021: Major Breakthrough
Jackpot! Our experiments showed that blade control could dramatically enhance wind turbine performance. Our lab prototype achieved a threefold efficiency increase and a 70% reduction in turbulence-related structural damage compared to an unactuated turbine.
October 2023: Windworks is Born
With significant industry traction, we secured a CHF 130,000 BRIDGE grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation to commercialize our academic findings. And just like that, Windworks was born!
April 2024: Windworks Making Headlines
We demonstrated our technology using a laboratory proof of concept, achieving a threefold increase in power production and a 70% reduction in structural vibrations compared to a standard, fixed-wing wind turbine. The results, published in Nature Communications in April 2024, sparked a global interest in our wind turbine. We gained over one million impression in both federal (RTS, AGIR, 20 Minutes) and international medias (WindPower Monthly, IE, tech explorist, Norio).
March 2025: First Sale and Team Growth
A farm owner in Vaud becomes our first client with an agreement reached to install a 10kW Windworks turbine.
Our team grows with Eric Sayag joining as a third co-founder. Multiple hires in our engineering team accelerate product development.
May 2026: De Vigier Finalist
Our CEO Sébastien Le Fouest is announced as one of the 10 finalists of the W.A. de Vigier Award one of the country’s most coveted startup prizes. We're honoured that our work is being recognised amongst a cohort of pioneering Swiss startups.
